4 Reasons We’re Excited About the Newly Opened Downtown Bridges & Trails Project

Last Updated 12/16/2021Posted in Information, Businesses, & Events

According to the National Association of Homebuilders, access to community outdoor amenities such as parks and trails top the list of features when it comes to choosing a place to live. Thankfully here in Roseville we offer many options for getting outside––with some of our favorite parks and trails located right in the heart of downtown. And now with the opening of the newly completed Downtown Bridges & Trails Project, we have even more to celebrate. Here are the top four reasons we are excited about this welcomed addition to our community.

1. Miles of Outdoor Fitness and Fun

The new trail project connects six-miles of off-street trails that run from Sierra College Blvd. to Darling Way. That’s six miles of outdoor activity with a healthy dose of serenity and nature. So grab your bike or your running shoes and get ready to improve both your physical and mental health on this scenic trail.

2. Not One, or Two, but Three Bridges

If you missed the refurbishment and rotation of the Rube Nelson “Ice House Bridge” watch it here. Downtown’s original bridge now connects the trail across Dry Creek, while a new pedestrian bridge provides direct connection between Royer Park and Vernon Street Town Square. And the Taylor Street pedestrian bridge now provides access from Royer Park to the Downtown Public Library. It’s never been so easy to get from Royer Park over to visit all the shops, services, restaurants and events Downtown Roseville offers.

3. Future Events

Did you know the new pedestrian bridge that connects Royer Park and Vernon Street Town Square will host future events? The bridge features unique architectural details and is wide enough for tables, activities, vendors, and music. Stay tuned for more information about upcoming events on the bridge!

4. The Grand Opening Celebration: Saturday, September 21st

Mark your calendars and get ready to “Celebrate Downtown” on Saturday, September 21st. The all-day event marks the official grand opening celebration of the Downtown Bridges & Trails projects with an old-fashioned carnival, live music, and the 7th Annual Family Fest. The event timeline includes:

  • 9:30 am: Join us for a group bike ride across the newly opened trail. Meet at Royer Park and don’t forget your bike and helmet!

  • 10:30 am: Attend the ribbon cutting ceremony and then follow us across the new pedestrian bridge to the carnival in Royer Park. Meet at the Oak Street side of the bridge.

  • 11:00 am - 2:00 pm: The fun continues at an old fashioned Carnival in Royer Park featuring games, food trucks, live music, a zip line and more!

  • 11:00 am - 2:00 pm: After the carnival head over to Vernon Street Town Square for Family Fest. Enjoy a truck exploration zone, live performances, a kids zone, and more than 50 family-friendly vendors.

  • 7:30 pm: Come back downtown that evening for the final Concert on the Square of the season. Enjoy the music from ABBA FAB, tasty food truck grub, and visit the beer garden. Gates open at 6:30 pm.
